Sam Costen

Samuel Cutter "Sam" Costen〔()〕 (May 18, 1882 – January 21, 1955) was an American football player and coach. Costen was a quarterback for Dan McGugin's Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University. He was the third head college football coach for The Citadel Bulldogs located in Charleston, South Carolina and he held that position for two seasons, from 1909 until 1910.
His career coaching record at The Citadel was 7 wins, 7 losses, and 2 ties. This ranks him 20th at The Citadel in total wins and ninth at The Citadel in winning percentage.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Citadel Coaching Records )〕 He also coached in Blytheville, Arkansas.
He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1908 with a LL.B degree. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega.
